Holiday Maths Challenges

Can you work out these challenges :

Read each question carefully then read it again. Look at what it's asking you to do. Give it a go and post your answer in the comments box with your name :)

1.The Amazing Splitting Plant

The splitting plant grows in a special way.
In the first week, the stem splits into two branches.
In the second week, each of these two branches split into another two branches - making four branches altogether.

This keeps happening every week, until at the end of the sixth week each branch grows a flower.

How many flowers will the plant have?

2. How We'd Count

How many dots?

How did you count them?

3. How would you share?

Pirate Panda has taken all the treasure, 20 golden coins. Cat, Dog and Rabbit jump about
excitedly, “Can we have some too?”
“No! No! No!” says Pirate Panda.

Can the children suggest what Panda ought to do?
How many coins should each animal have?
