The Victorious Year 7 & 8 Basketball Teams

I had the pleasure of coaching a wonderful group of Year 7 & 8 girls in Basketball. They competed in a Manurewa interschools Basketball Tournment today and came out victorious in first place!! The Year 7 & 8 Boys (coached by Matua Tuiono) also competed and came first overall as well!!

Both teams beat out The Gardens, Randwick Park and Finlayson Primary! Well done guys, you were awesome and such good sports! GO CPS!!!

Maths Buddy Sharing with Room 11

Today we joined forces with Room 11 to share some of our Maths learning and celebrate the last day of Maths Week.

First we went to Room 11 to show their students how to play the strategy game '21', they really enjoyed it! Room 11 also showed us how to play some Place Value games.

After we finished playing our games, we all went out to the courts and were split in to teams to create (with chalk) and navigate a basic maze, as we are looking at Position and Orientation this term. We were only allowed to use directions such as 'step forward/backwards, turn left/right' etc to move a person in our team successfully through the maze. We even tried it with our eyes closed. This was a real challenge for our students but we had a lot of fun trying!

We may need some practice on our directions for left and right : )

Day 3 of Maths Week

Room 13 are really enjoy trying to figure out the daily Maths challenges on the Maths Week Blog http://cpsmathsweek.blogspot.com/.

Below are some pictures showing some of the answers our students came up with.

The Estimation Jar - Who can guess correctly?

This is the estimation jar that has been travelling around to all our classes for our students to try to figure out how many objects it contains! Miss Breen had the awesome task of counting every last bean and counter that went in it and only she knows the magic number. A big hint is that it is in the thousands!

Do you think you could guess the correct number or close to it?

Day 2 of Maths Week

We were being busy little bees working hard on the Day 2 Maths challenges off the Clendon Park Maths Week Blog. Some of us were working in pairs while the rest of us worked on the mat with Miss Breen.
